The Interview That Seemed Like a Sure Thing
Brother Gbile Akanni was confident as he walked into a job interview. He was the most qualified candidate, with several of the panelists already hearing good reports about him from their wives, who had been his students during his national service year.
The panelists assured him, “Mr. Akanni, you’ve got the job. We actually need you, and we want you. Our wives appreciate you teaching them physics.” It seemed like a guaranteed opportunity.
However, despite the warm affirmation, the appointment letter never arrived. Other candidates were hired, but not him. Brother Gbile was deeply disappointed, as he had no “plan B” and had trusted God to guide him this far.
With no job and dwindling resources, Brother Gbile found himself with only 30 kobo – less than a cent. Frustrated and at the brink of giving up, he prayed to God, questioning whether God was delaying his life because he had no transport fare to go anywhere else.
The Temptation to move out of God’s Will
A brother working in a local bank was led by God to visit Brother Gbile. During his break, the brother brought him transport fare, explaining that the Lord had instructed him to deliver it urgently. Yet, Brother Gbile hesitated to accept the money, feeling it might be a temptation to move out of God’s will.
He prayed, asking for forgiveness, realizing that God’s will was more important than any material provision. Even though he had no food, Brother Gbile decided not to go outside God’s plan for his life.
In that moment of prayer, God spoke to him with clarity: “It is not for lack of funds that I am keeping you here. If you want to go, you are free to go. But wherever you go, whatever you do—preaching, singing, or teaching—it will be recorded in your secret file before Me, ‘Gbile was posted to serve Me in Benue State, but he has absconded.’ You may have all the money you want, but you will not have My Presence.”
This powerful lesson reminded Brother Gbile that following God’s will isn’t always easy, but His presence and guidance are far more valuable than any material possession or success.
